Now that's not quite true is it. As with anything if you don't put the effort in you don't get the returns and the more effort you put into developing your site, its contents and marketing it the better your returns should be.

If you want to avoid putting in the work then the option is to pay a marketing company to do it all for you.

I wouldn't normally correct English but as you carry a link to a marketing company in your signature and are talking about site marketing I'll make an exception.

'ur' is not correct English and should be written as 'your', the same goes for 'u' which should be written as 'you'.

Unfortunately we see a lot of poor English with submissions to our directory. People promoting their sites should really take the time to write correct English or if they are employing others to do the promotion should ensure that the company employs individuals with a good grasp of the English language.

Writing correctly makes it is easier for someone who doesn't speak the language or has other difficulties to make sense of the text and as a knock on effect search engines can better understand the text.

  • Search engine friendly URLs.
  • Good quality copy for each and every product page.
  • A fast easy to navigate and buy from site.
  • Clear methods of contact along with clear privacy policy and terms and conditions.
  • Avoid using the same meta keywords, descriptions and title on each and every page.
  • Use well structure markup, that is use h tags for headings not styled spans or some other oddity.
  • Avoid putting all the text into images, search engines can't read images.
  • Get links to your site and direct to your product pages, on topic links of course.
  • Add a blog to the site.
Really anything you do to promote a normal site or brink and mortar business can be used to promote an e-commerce site.

Things to avoid:

Keyword stuffing - I see a lot of websites that still wrongly believe that they should be using multiple keywords over and over again within the website copy.

Write for the human first them the search engine.

A sure way to lose rankings is by keyword stuffing, it also loses sales, when a visitor to your website reads badly formatted text they will generally vote for you with the back-button and leave your website.

I agree, nothing worse than keyword stuffed sales copy.

I'd also add that when writing the copy spend the time to ensure that it makes sense to anyone who lands on your site, just because you know what every page of your site is about doesn't mean the visitor will. You can't assume the visitor has taken any particular path through your site, they can arrive at any page, therefore each page must make sense on its own.

It's surprising the number of sites I see submitted to our directory where after reading their home page I'm left scratching my head wondering what product or service is being offered, any time that happens the site has failed.

Dynamic URLs in e-commerce sites

Mostly E-commerce sites have Dynamic URLs which are not SE friendly. And it is also a very difficult task to change the Dynamic URLs into Static, if the site has more number of pages. In that case, if SEO is done without changing dynamic urls into static, then how effective will be our SEO result? Is it worth doing SEO without changing dynamic urls?

Have a look at http://forums.tolranet.com/blog.php?b=13 if you have pages which have variable number of parameters etc as that might help without being a major drama to add.

Nice Tips to promote the website. You can also submit the site to search engines and classifieds. That also makes our site popular and our site will be indexed easily.
