Email Sending Parameters

Paul,

I found that the script when sending acceptance / rejection emails, sends from the user "nobody", which for those off us who run our own servers turn that feature off upon the server to stop spammers exploiting the feature, the script therefor cannot send email.

Is there a possibilty you could include SMTP information or the like, so admins can assign a sender as such to get around this issue?

I have found that the security conscious run suPHP, phpsuexec or a fastCGI setup as that forces the script to run as the account owner rather than nobody, therefore there is no problem.

For the rest they just let nobody send email.

I'll have a look at changing lib/mailer.php to allow SMTP login.

I have just uploaded a beta version of 3.8.7 to the owners area.

To update:
  • Backup your database and files
  • Upload the lib, admin, feeds and install folders
  • Run yourdomain.com/install/install.php
  • Delete the install folder from the server
The script will continue to run as before using the mail command, to change to SMTP, edit wdcfg.php and add the following:

define('WDSMTPHOST', 'localhost');
define('WDSMTPPORT', 25);
define('WDSMTPUSER', '');
define('WDSMTPPWD', '');

Where:

WDSMTPHOST is the server to connect to.
WDSMTPPORT is the port on the server to connect to.
WDSMTPUSER is the user name to authenticate with or if you don't need authentication use ''.
Note: Pop before SMTP is not supported.
WDSMTPPWD is the password for the user being authenticated with.

This has had somewhat limited testing so if you do encounter errors then please let me know.
